This is where I'll be putting any current Electrical Engineering projects I'm working on, once there's a big enough break to document them.
Right now, I'm working on repairing a 1960s Ampeg Jet J12A guitar amp. This started when I swapped out the original tubes (40+ years old!) for some new ones - and consequently blew out the transformer. Not very common... but it happens.
So far, the transformer's been replaced with a Mercury Magnetics version (and it sounds good!), but I still have to go through and verify all the plate currents to make sure I'm not torching the tubes. One of the reasons is because the *new* 5Y3GTs have a lower voltage drop, which leads to a higher rectified voltage... Damn you, Soviets!!!
Getting there!
Next up is either my own amp design or an effects box - both tube-based. I'm also hoping to get a junker guitar and put some on-board effects (no tubes, as I'm not quite that crazy), similar in concept to Andy Summers's guitar. Let me know if you have ideas!
